The formal establishment and definition of nursing informatics as a specialty practise by the American Nurses Association occurred in 1992. There have also been organised endeavours to advance informatics education and workforce training, one of the most notable of which was the TIGER (Technology Informatics Guiding Education Reform) Initiative in 2006.

Nursing informatics plays a vital role in today’s healthcare landscape, integrating nursing science, information science, and technology to improve patient care outcomes.
